Richards Bay Gas to Power Station KwaZulu-Natal Province DEA Ref: 14/12/16/3/3/2/867 Richards Bay Gas to Power 2 (Pty) Ltd

PROPOSED GAS TO POWER PLANT AND ASSOCIATED INFRASTRUCTURE ON A SITE WITHIN THE RICHARDS BAY INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT ZONE, KWAZULU-NATAL PROVINCE

Project Name:  Proposed Gas to Power Station 

Applicant:  Richards Bay Gas to Power 2 (Pty) Ltd

Proposed Activity & Location:  The project entails the establishment of a gas to power plant (Combined Cycle Power Plant) and associated infrastructure, including a substation and 132kV power line to connect to the existing Eskom Indus Substation. The project will be located on Erven 17455, 17443 and 17442 within the Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone (IDZ) 1F, located in the uMthlathuze Local Municipality in Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa.  The gas to power plant will have a capacity of up to 300MW (gas generated energy) and an additional 100MW generated from the steam turbines. The project will be developed in two (2) phases to operate with a wide variety of fuels; including diesel and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in Phase 1 and ultimately Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) or Natural Gas in Phase 2.

Environmental Impact Assessment Process In terms of Sections 24 and 24D of the National Environmental Management Act (Act No 107 of 1998), as read with Government Notices R982 to R985, a Scoping and EIA process is being undertaken in accordance with the EIA Regulations, 2014 for the proposed project.

The final EIA report has been submitted to the DEA.
