Metals Industrial Cluster Near Kuruman, Northern Cape Province Ref No: NC/EIA/04/JTG/GA-S/KUR1/2016 Northern Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism


Project Name: Metals Industrial Cluster near Kuruman

Applicant: Northern Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism

Location: Portion 6253 of Erf 1 located ~2km south east of the town of Kuruman and ~1km south west of Wrenchville.  

Proposed Activity:  The establishment of a Metals Industrial Cluster to provide a node for semi-industrial and industrial developments in the Kuruman area.  The Cluster is expected to be developed in four development phases and is expected to operate for a minimum of 20 years (first three phases).  Phase 4 is intended to cater for the expansion of the Cluster beyond the 20-year timeframe.  

Application for Environmental Authorisation:  In terms of Sections 24 and 24D of the National Environmental Management Act (No 107 of 1998), as read with Government Notice R982 - R985, a Scoping and EIA is required to be undertaken for the proposed project.  The competent authority for the proposed project is the Northern Cape Department of Environment and Nature Conservation.
