PROPOSED GUNSTFONTEIN SWITCHING STATION, 132KV OVERHEAD POWER LINE AND ANCILLARY INFRASTRUCTURE FOR THE PROPOSED GUNSTFONTEIN WIND FARM NEAR SUTHERLAND, NORTHERN CAPE PROVINCE
Project Name: Gunstfontein Switching Station, 132kV overhead power line (single or double circuit) and ancillary infrastructure for the proposed Gunstfontein Wind Farm near Sutherland, Northern Cape Province.
Applicant: Gunstfontein Wind Farm (Pty) Ltd
Proposed Activity: In order to connect the Gunstfontein Wind Energy Facility (which forms part of a separate Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) application – DEA ref: 14/12/16/3/3/2/826) to the National Eskom grid, an on-site switching station (known as the Gunstfontein Switching Station), a new 132kV single or double circuit overhead power line and ancillary infrastructure (including access tracks/roads, laydown areas and a system metering installation) will be required. The switching station (approximately 120m x 120m) will be located adjacent to the Gunstfontein Substation (which forms part of a separate EIA application – DEA ref: 14/12/16/3/3/2/826), within the proposed Gunstfontein Wind Farm Facility site, and the 132kV overhead power line will connect the Gunstfontein Switching Station to the Eskom Heuwels (Soetwater) Switching Station.
Location: The project is located approximately 50km north of Matjiesfontein and 30 km south of Sutherland, in the Northern Cape Province. The following properties will be affected by the construction of the proposed Project: Remainder of Farm Gunstfontein 131, Remainder of Farm Boschmans Hoek 177, Remainder of Farm Wolwenhoek 182, Remainder of Farm Zwanepoelshoek Re/184 and Remainder of Farm Leeuwe Hoek 183.
Environmental Impact Assessment Process: In terms of sections 24 and 24D of the National Environmental Management Act (No 107 of 1998), as read with the EIA Regulations of GN R982 – GN R985, a Basic Assessment study will be required to be undertaken for the project.
