AVAILABILITY OF BASIC ASSESSMENT REPORT FOR REVIEW
Project Name: Proposed REDISA Waste Tyre Pre-Processing Depot in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga Province.
Applicant: Recycling and Economic Development Initiative of South Africa NPC (REDISA)
Proposed Activity: It is REDISA’s intention to apply for a Waste Management Licence (WML), in terms of the National Environmental Management: Waste Act (Act No. 59 of 2008) (NEM:WA), from the Mpumalanga Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs (MP DARDLEA), as the Competent Authority, for the authorisation of the proposed waste tyre pre-processing (i.e. storage, baling and shredding) depot in Nelspruit. Storage has commenced on site upon REDISA receiving a letter of confirmation of registration from the MP DARDLEA to undertake storage at the depot. The site is being leased by REDISA and as such has been handed over as “minimum fit-for-purpose” (ready-to-use-for-storage). The site is approximately 12690m2 consisting of the following infrastructure:
» A warehouse and shed with a footprint of approximately 154m2 to house the pre-processing machinery (baler, shredder and downsizing equipment);
» An office area, store room, ablution facilities and parking area with a total footprint of <2000m2
» Separate Waste tyre storage areas for OTR, Agricultural and Passenger tyres with a total footprint of approximately 6565m2. Part of the area is already paved as it was used previously, the rest of the area is unpaved and will remain as such.
Location: The proposed activity will occur on Erf 74 located at 30 Wilkens Road, Rock Drift Extension 3, in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga Province. The depot is located within the City of Mbombela Local and Ehlanzeni District Municipalities approximately 9.5km east of the centre of Nelspruit. The site is located within Axis Industrial Park, Rocky Drift, and was previously used as a scaffolding company. The site is being leased by REDISA.
