140 MEGAWATT ROGGEVELD WIND FARM AND ASSOCIATED INFRASTRUCTURE NORTHERN CAPE & WESTERN CAPE PROVINCES
Roggeveld Wind Power (Pty) Ltd obtained environmental authorization to establish a commercial 140MW wind energy facility and associated infrastructure on a site located~20km north of Matjiesfontein within the Karoo Hoogland Local Municipality in the Northern Cape Province and the Laingsburg Local Municipality in the Western Cape Province.
The project received Environmental Authorisation from the National Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) on 12 August 2014. Following a competitive bidding process under the Department of Energy’s (DoE’s) Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP), the Roggeveld Wind Farm was awarded Preferred Bidder status in May 2015 in bid window four (round four). Construction is due to commence after financial close is achieved.
As per Condition 19 of the Environmental Authorisation, the Environmental Management Programme (EMPr) submitted with the Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAr) was not approved and must be amended to include the measures as stipulated by the final layout map and micro-siting; and the provisions of the Environmental Authorisation. As per the authorisation the Construction and Operational Environmental Management Plan (CEMP and OEMP) has been amended and now includes the conditions of the Environmental Authorisation of 12 August 2014.
Roggeveld Wind Power (Pty) Ltd has appointed Savannah Environmental, as the independent environmental consultants, to update/revise the Environmental Management Programme (EMPr) as required by the DEA.
AVAILABILITY OF THE EMPr FOR PUBLIC REVIEW
In accordance with the Environmental Authorisation dated 12 August 2014, the updated EMPr is available for public review and comment by registered Interested and Affected Parties (I&APs) and stakeholders. I&APs are invited to review the EMPr from the 06 January 2017 – 06 February 2017. The updated EMPr is available for download on www.savannahsa.com/projects. The due date for written comment is 06 February 2017. Comments can be made as written submission via fax, post or email.
