Project Names: Aberdeen Wind Facility 1, Aberdeen Wind Facility 2 and Aberdeen Wind Facility 3, Western Cape Province
Applicant, Activity and Location: The development of three (3) separate wind energy facilities and associated infrastructure on sites located approximately 20 km west of Aberdeen in the Eastern Cape Province. The projects are located within the Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality and the greater Sarah Baartman District Municipality.
Each wind farm has a planned contracted capacity of up to 240MW, and will include up to 41 wind turbines and associated infrastructure including an on-site facility substation; turbine foundations and hardstands; battery energy storage system, main and internal access roads; cabling between the turbines; warehouse, laydown area and site camp hub; and O&M buildings.

Application for Environmental Authorisation: Separate applications for Environmental Authorisation (EA) in terms of the National Environmental Management Act (No. 107 of 1998) (NEMA) and the EIA Regulations, 2014, as amended, (GNR 324-327) are to be submitted for the projects. As the project sites are located within the Beaufort West Renewable Energy Development Zone (REDZ), a Basic Assessment (BA) process is required to be undertaken in accordance with GNR114 (February 2018). Savannah Environmental is undertaking the required environmental assessment and combined public participation process.
Basic Assessment (BA) Reports available for review: The BA Report for each project is available for review and comment. The due date for written comment is 13 April 2023.
