REDDING WIND FARM, AEOULUS WIND FARM AND REDZ 3 POWER CORRIDOR 400MTS, EASTERN CAPE PROVINCE

Project Names:  Redding Wind Farm, Aeoulus Wind Farm and REDZ 3 Power Corridor 400MTS , Eastern Cape Province

Applicant: Redding (Pty) Ltd, Aeoulus (Pty), and Ltd Wind Relic (Pty) Ltd

Proposed Activities: The development of two separate wind energy facilities and electrical grid infrastructure, which includes, a 400kV Main Transmission Substation (MTS) and two (2) 400kV power lines, to connect the wind farms to the national grid. The connection points into the national grid will be the existing Poseidon-Grassridge No.2 400kV power line and the existing Poseidon – Dedisa No.1 400kV power line. Associated infrastructure for each wind farm includes an on-site switching station, collector substation, a 132kV power line (twin turn dual circuit), access roads (gravel in nature), concrete foundations and hardstands, laydown area, cabling to be laid underground where practical, temporary concrete batching plant, temporary staff accommodation, and operation and maintenance buildings. Location: Located between Somerset East and Makhanda, ~36km south of Cookhouse, within the Blue Crane Route Local Municipality, Sarah Baartman District Municipality in the Eastern Cape Province, and within the Cookhouse Renewable Energy Development Zone (REDZ) and the Eastern Strategic Transmission Corridor. Basic Assessment Process:  In terms of Sections 24 and 24D of the National Environmental Management Act (No 107 of 1998), as read with Government Notice R324 – R327, as amended, Environmental Authorisation is required for the projects.  As the project sites are located within the Cookhouse Renewable Energy Development Zone and the Eastern Strategic Transmission Corridor, Basic Assessment (BA) processes are required to be undertaken in accordance with GN R.113 and GN R.114 (February 2018).  Savannah Environmental is undertaking the required environmental assessments and a combined public participation process.

Notification of Basic Assessment Reports for public review and comment: The Basic Assessment (BA) Reports for Redding Wind Farm, Aeoulus Wind Farm and the REDZ 3 Power Corridor 400MTS are available for review and comment from Friday, 03 September 2021 until Tuesday, 19 October 2021, and the due date for written comments on these reports is Tuesday, 19 October 2021.
