KIARA PHOTOVOLTAIC CLUSTER AND ASSOCIATED INFRASTRUCTURE, NORTH WEST PROVINCE

Proposed Activity and Location: The development of seven (7) photovoltaic (PV) facilities and associated infrastructure on sites located approximately 16km north-east of the town of Lichtenburg in the North West Province. The projects are located in the Ditsobotla Local Municipality within the Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality.

The following infrastructure will be developed for each of the respective PV facilities:
- Solar PV array comprising PV modules and mounting structures
- Inverters and transformers
- Cabling between the panels
- 132kV onsite facility substation
- Cabling from the onsite substation to a collector substation (either underground or overhead).
- Electrical and auxiliary equipment required at the collector substation that serves the solar energy facility, including switchyard/bay, control building, fences, etc.
- Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)
- Site and internal access roads (up to 8m wide)
- Site offices and maintenance buildings, including workshop areas for maintenance and storage.
- Temporary and permanent laydown area
Application for Environmental Authorisation: Separate applications for Environmental Authorisation (EA) in terms of the National Environmental Management Act (No. 107 of 1998) and the Environmental Assessment Regulations, 2014, as amended, (GNR 326) have been submitted for the projects to the Department of Forestry, Fishery and the Environment (DFFE).
Environmental Impact Assessment Report available for public review and comment: EIA Reports in support of the Application for Environmental Authorisations have been compiled and are available for review and comment from Friday, 20 January 2023 to Monday, 20 February 2023 on our online stakeholder engagement platform at https://savannahsa.com/public-documents/energy-generation/.
