NOTICE OF AVAILABILITY OF ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT REPORTS AND BASIC ASSESSMENT REPORT FOR THE PIXLEY PARK RENEWABLE ENERGY PROJECTS, NORTHERN CAPE PROVINCE

 

Applicant: Carolus Solar PV1 (Pty) Ltd, Wagt Solar PV1 (Pty), Riet Fountain Solar PV1 (Pty) and Fountain Solar PV1 (Pty)

 Proposed Activity:  The development of a cluster of solar energy facilities and associated infrastructure, including Electrical Grid Infrastructure (EGI), ~10km East of the town of De Aar within the Emthanjeni Local Municipality and in the greater Pixley ka Seme District Municipality, Northern Cape Province.  The cluster consists of:

  • Carolus Solar PV1: Up to 120MW
  • Fountain Solar PV1: Up to 120MW
  • Wagt Solar PV1: Up to 250MW
  • Riet Fountain Solar PV1: Up to 250MW
  • Grid connection infrastructure associated with each facility, including a 132kV substation and a 132kV overhead power line

Project Location: Solar PV developments are located approximately 10km east of De Aar on the following farms:

All projects and associated infrastructures are located within the Emthanjeni Local Municipality and in the greater Pixley ka Seme District Municipality, Northern Cape Province.

Environmental Assessment Processes: In terms of Sections 24 and 24D of the National Environmental Management Act (No 107 of 1998), as read with the EIA Regulations, GNR 982-985 of 4 December 2014, as amended, a Scoping and EIA process is required to be undertaken in support of an application for authorisation for the proposed four (4) solar developments and its associated infrastructure.  A Basic Assessment process is required to be undertaken in support of an application for authorisation for the proposed grid connections associated with the four (4) solar developments.

Environmental Impact Assessment Reports available for public review and comment:  Environmental Impact Assessment Reports in support of each of the Applications for Environmental Authorisation for the PV facilities have been compiled and are available for review and comment from Friday, 12 August 2022 to Monday, 12 September 2022.
