NOTICE OF BASIC ASSESSMENT (BA) AND PUBLIC PARTICIPATION PROCESSES

LIMESTONE PV FACILITIES ESKOM GRID CONNECTION INFRASTRUCTURE AND LIMESTONE PV2 GRID CONNECTION INFRASTRUCTURE, NORTHERN CAPE PROVINCE

 Applicant: K2022578784 (SOUTH AFRICA) (Pty) Ltd.

Proposed Activity:  The development of the Limestone PV facilities Eskom grid connection infrastructure and Limestone PV2 grid connection infrastructure including the following:

»      A 132kV Eskom Switching Station of up to 1ha with two alternative locations being considered.

»      132kV overhead power lines that will connect the Eskom Switching Station to the Olien Substation

»      Option 1: length of up to 0.25km and servitude of 36m (0.9ha)

»      Option 2: length of up to 0.35km and servitude of 36m (1.26ha)

»      Access roads to the Eskom Switching Substation.

»      Option 1: length of up to 2.1km, width up to 6m (1.26ha)

»      Option 2: length of up to 2.5km, width up to 6m(1.5ha)

»      An access road to the Olien MTS (realignment of the existing access road).

»      Option 1: Route uses mostly existing farm road that requires upgrading. Length up to 3km, width up to 6m (1.8ha)

»      Option 2: New Road required. Length up to 2.6km, width up to 6m (1.56ha).

»      132kV overhead powerlines that will connect the Limestone PV2 facility to the Limestone PV1 onsite substation.

»      Option 1: 3.9km in length with a servitude of 36m (14.05ha)

»      Option 2: 3.55km in length with a servitude of 36m (12.8ha)

»      A 22kv existing Eskom line that needs to be rerouted:

»      Option 1: 3.15km in length with a servitude of 18m (11.35ha)

»      Option 2: 4.30km in length with a servitude of 18m (15.50ha).

Location:  The proposed projects are located ~16km southeast of the town of Danielskuil within the jurisdiction of the Kgatelopele Local Municipality in the Northern Cape Province on Portion 4 of the Farm Engeland 300.

Basic Assessment Processes: In terms of Sections 24 and 24D of the National Environmental Management Act (No 107 of 1998), as read with Government Notice R324 – R327, as amended, Environmental Authorisation (EA) is required for the above-mentioned projects.  A Basic Assessment (BA) process is required for the proposed Limestone PV Facilities Eskom Grid Connection Infrastructure and a Basic Assessment (BA) process is required Limestone PV2 Grid Connection Infrastructure. Separate applications for Environmental Authorisation will be submitted to the Northern Cape Department of Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Rural Development and Land Reform (DAEARD &LR)).  Savannah Environmental is undertaking the required BA and public participation processes for these projects.

Basic Assessment Reports available for review: BA Reports have been prepared and are available for review and comment from Tuesday,14 November 2023 to Thursday, 14 December 2023.
