Project Name: Olifantshoek 132kV Power Line, Northern Cape Province
Applicant: Gamagara Local Municipality
Proposed Activity: The construction and operation of grid connection infrastructure consisting of a single circuit 132kV power line between the existing Emil Traction Substation and the authorised Olifantshoek Substation. The proposed power line will be used to strengthen the grid network in the area in order to ensure adequate supply of electricity for residents within the municipality’s jurisdictional area. The power line is being assessed within a 300m wide and 36km long grid connection corridor.
Project Location: Near the town of Olifantshoek located within the Gamagara Local Municipality and the greater John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality the in the Northern Cape Province. The affected properties are:

Basic Assessment Process: In terms of Sections 24 and 24D of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act No. 107 of 1998), as read with Government Notice R324 – R327, as amended (2017), a Basic Assessment (BA) is required to be undertaken in support of an application for Authorisation. Savannah Environmental (Pty) Ltd is undertaking the required BA and public participation process for the project.
