Establishment of 132kv Grid Connection Infrastructure for the Woodhouse 1 and Woodhouse 2 Solar Energy Facilities

ESTABLISHMENT OF 132KV GRID CONNECTION INFRASTRUCTURE FOR THE WOODHOUSE 1 AND WOODHOUSE 2 SOLAR ENERGY FACILITIES, NORTH-WEST PROVINCE

Applicant: Genesis Eco-Energy (Pty) Ltd.

Proposed Activity: Development of a grid connection solution for the currently authorised solar photovoltaic (PV) facilities known as Woodhouse Solar 1 PV and Woodhouse Solar 2 PV facilities. The grid connection infrastructures will include a double circuit 132kV power line, 132kV switching station, collector substation, 33kV underground cables and access roads to substation sites.

Location: Approximately 10km south east of the town of Vryburg in the Naledi Local municipality and within the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality, North West Province. Five properties are affected by the project including:

  1. Farm Waterloo 992
  2. Portion 2 of Farm Woodhouse 792
  3. Portion 2 of the Farm Bernauw 674
  4. Remaining Extent of Portion 56 of the Farm Bernauw 674
  5. Remaining Extent of Farm Woodhouse 729/Eskom Servitude Area

Basic Assessment Process: In terms of Section 24 and 24D of the National Environmental Management Act (No 107 of 1998) as read with Government Notice R324 – R327, as amended, and GN R114 (February 2018), a Basic Assessment (BA) is required for the 132kV power line and 132kV switching station and collector substation. Savannah Environmental is undertaking the required environmental assessment and public participation process for the project. An application for the project has been lodged with the competent authority the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment (DFFE).

Basic Assessment Report available for public review and comment:  Savannah Environmental has compiled a BA Report in support of the Application for Environmental Authorisation.  The Basic Assessment Report and associated documentation will be available for public review and comment from Monday, 06 September 2021 to Thursday, 07 October 2021.
