PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT OF AN ACCESS ROAD FOR THE WOLF WIND FARM, NEAR JANSENVILLE, EASTERN CAPE PROVINCE

Proposed Activity: The development of an access road to Wolf Wind Farm
The following is being considered within the Basic Assessment (BA) process for this project:
- a surfaced main access road with a width up to 9m, and a length of 1.6 km;
- a servitude with an average width of 10 m – 12 m; and
- a big cutting with a width of 50 m that will include batters.
Project Location: ~ 38 km south east of the town of Jansenville on Portion 1 and the remaining extent of Portion 2 of Farm Salt Pans Neck 287 (Now Doornkom 287), within the jurisdiction of the Dr Beyers Naude’ Local Municipality as well as the Sundays River Local Municipality, as located in the Sarah Baartman District Municipality, Eastern Cape Province.
Basic Assessment Process: An application for Environmental Authorisation (EA) in terms of the National Environmental Management Act (No. 107 of 1998) (NEMA) and the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations, 2014, as amended, (GNR 326) is being undertaken for the project. In terms of the triggered activities, a BA process is required in support of the application for EA for the proposed Wolf Wind Farm access road. Savannah Environmental has been appointed as the independent environmental consultant responsible for undertaking the required BA and Public Participation Process (PPP) for the project.
Basic Assessment Report available for public review and comment: The BA Report and associated documentation will be made available for download, review, and comment on the Savannah Environmental website (https://savannahsa.com/public-documents/transport-infrastructure/). The 30-day public review and commenting period of the BA Report will be from Friday, 8 April 2022 until Monday, 16 May 2022. The final day to submit comments is Monday, 16 May 2022.
