Savannah Environmental is seeking to appoint a motivated GIS and Environmental Consultant to join its Johannesburg team. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a background in GIS and environmental science to contribute to a wide range of project-related environmental work, including environmental screenings, environmental authorisation applications, public participation processes, GIS analysis, mapping, and data visualisation, within the renewable energy sector.

The successful candidate will support the delivery of environmental consulting services across a variety of renewable energy development and infrastructure projects, working within a dynamic and experienced team. The role is office-based at our Woodmead, Johannesburg offices, with potential for hybrid work as you grow in the role.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with environmental screening and desktop environmental assessments
• Support and manage the preparation of environmental authorisation applications
• Assist with public participation processes
• Undertake GIS analysis, project-related mapping, and spatial data visualisation
• Provide GIS support for environmental projects and reporting
• Assist with compiling spatial outputs, figures, and maps for submissions and presentations
• Support broader environmental consulting tasks as required

Minimum Requirements

• A relevant qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, GIS, or a related field
• 1–2 years' experience preferred in GIS application and/or the environmental sector
• Strong interest in environmental consulting and project support work
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work accurately, manage deadlines, and contribute effectively within a team

Preferred Requirements

• Working knowledge of ArcGIS Pro
• Familiarity with the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations
• EAPASA candidacy or membership will be an advantage
