Kalgold Solar PV (Pty) Ltd, together with Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited (Harmony Gold) is looking to supplement the Harmony Kalgold Mine operations (the Mine) energy supply by implementing solar PV generation technology at their site, aiding their transition to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly energy mix. The development of the Kalgold Solar PV facility with a generating capacity of up to 19.5MW is proposed east of the Harmony Kalgold operations The Basic Assessment Report has been updated, as applicable, and submitted to the North West Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism for decision-making.

South Deep Joint Venture proposes to expand the existing Khanyisa Solar PV facility by an additional 30MW. This expansion will increase the total generation capacity up to 80MW. To support the additional capacity, the project will utilise electrical grid infrastructure that will connect the expanded facility to the Twin Shaft Substation by looping into the existing 11 kV underground transmission line situated approximately 250m east of the operational solar plant. The Final Scoping Report has been finalised and submitted to the Gauteng Department of Environment (GDEnv).

Amendment of EMPr

ABO Wind Lichtenburg 3 PV (Pty) Ltd propose to amend the approved Environmental Management Programmes (EMPrs) for the operational Lichtenburg 1, 2 and 3 PV Solar Facilities (DFFE Refs: 14/12/16/3/3//1093, issued July 2019) to allow herbicide use as an alternative for effective vegetation control during construction and/or operational phases. Eleven turbines were previously authorised as part of the original Ummbila Emoyeni WEF (EIA Ref 14/12/16/3/3/2/2160/5) while the current application allowed for the development of a further 11 turbines with associated grid infrastructure. The project is located approximately 8km east of Morgenzon, within the Lekwa Local Municipality, Gert Sibande District Municipality in the Mpumalanga Province. The DFFE has granted Environmental Authorisation. The Appeal Period is ending on 26 October 2026.

Ummbila Emoyeni Cluster (Pty) Ltd is proposing amendments to the approved Ummbila Emoyeni Four Wind Energy Facility (WEF), with a contracted capacity of up to 140MW, and associated grid connection infrastructure on a site near Morgenzon in the Lekwa Local Municipality within the greater Gert Sibande District Municipality, Mpumalanga. The project forms part of the greater Ummbila Emoyeni WEF authorised under the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) (Ref. No. 14/12/16/3/3/2/2160).
