NOTICE OF BASIC ASSESSMENT AND PUBLIC PARTICIPATION PROCESS
DEVELOPMENT OF THE MIDDELVLEI SOLAR GRID CONNECTION INFRASTRUCTURE NEAR RANDFONTEIN, GAUTENG PROVINCE
Project Name: Middelvlei Solar Grid Connection Infrastructure
Applicant: Middelvlei Solar (Pty) Ltd (a special purpose vehicle (SPV) of Sigma Energy Capital (Pty) Ltd).
Project Location: The site proposed for the grid connection is located approximately ~7km southwest of the town of Randfontein, on Remainder of the farm Middelvlei 255 IQ; Remainder of portion 2 of the farm Middelvlei 255 IQ; Portion 63 of the farm Middelvlei 255 IQ and Portion 96 of the farm Middelvlei 255 IQ, within the Rand West City Local Municipality within the Gauteng Province.
Basic Assessment Process: In terms of Sections 24 and 24D of the National Environmental Management Act (No 107 of 1998), as read with Government Notice R324 – R327, as amended, an Environmental Authorisation (EA) is required for the project. In terms of the triggered activities, a Basic Assessment (BA) process is required to be undertaken in support of the application for EA. Savannah Environmental has been appointed as the independent environmental consultant responsible for undertaking the required BA and Public Participation Process for the project.
Basic Assessment Report available for public review and comment: The BA Report is available for download, review, and comment. The 30-day public review and commenting period of the BA Report will be from Wednesday, 28 February 2024 until Tuesday, 02 April 2024. The final day to submit comments is Tuesday, 02 April 2024.
